How We Hand-Bind Our Journals
Another hidden aspect of our work is the manual binding with needle and thread. In this case, what we seek is the antiqued appearance, seemingly fragile and slightly worn of our Journals. Before this step, we color the sheets one by one to achieve the desired tones on our pages; there are various color layers followed by a targeted drying process to obtain a certain waviness and texture of the paper. This is also made possible by the use of particularly thick sheets that allow for this type of processing and provide a more tactile, thick, and substantial feel to the pages.
Once the process is completed, we proceed with the binding. At this stage, it is important to avoid a geometrically symmetrical result, as it would compromise the decadent look of the Journal. The craftsmanship must evoke an object that is now out of use, without actually being so; only then do we achieve a result that resembles an ancient bound tome.
